If you’re low on cash and you have one defensive position remaining to fix, there’s an option out there for you but it’s a big risk. This is a guy that can score just as well as a premium and it wasn’t too long ago that he was considered a premium defender as well.
The Fremantle defender Alex Pearce was in All-Australian discussions in 2019, before injury truck him down in round 11. The broken ankle kept him away from the game for not only the remainder of the season but also, his sides 2020 champing too.
As a result, Pearce started the year at a mere $235,600 and was in my starting line-up in round 1, after a decent pre-season. Sadly though, Pearce went down to another injury, scored 11 SuperCoach points and was sidelined for 12 weeks.
Well, he’s now back and had a decent game in round 13 against the Suns, scoring 78 SuperCoach points. Due to the round 1 low score though, Pearce is likely to drop this week but if he scores well against Collingwood, then you should seriously consider him in round 16.
I personally, will be looking at his came against the Pies closely and if he survives, as well as scoring above 75, I think I will consider him for a point of difference in my back-line.
