I honestly never thought the day would come when I am recommending Tom Barrass as a potential round 5 trade-in option for the injured Sam Docherty, but here we are. The Eagles defender is currently in only 0.4% of SuperCoach teams in 2023, which makes him an interesting POD (point of difference) if you get this one right, and he’s undervalued. The 2018 premiership player started the year valued at $510,900, which has then dropped to his current price of $480,700, after two price changes.
The 27-year-old has started the season quite well, averaging 90.8 points after four games. This doesn’t sound amazing but outside of his round 2 score of 34 points against GWS, which is very much below his standards, Barrass has scored 103, 110 & 116 in his other three matches. These results are significantly better, and one of the reasons for this form is due to teammate Jeremy McGovern’s injury, which is forcing him to remain on the sidelines indefinitely.
The 2022 Eagles Best & Fairest winner ended last year strongly as well, with scores of 149, 132, 109,104, 126 & & 83 in his last 6 AFL games. This week, Barrass’s 34-point round 2 score will drop out of his three-round rolling average, which is why Barrass’s BE is only 49 and he’s projected to go up by $16,000. That means that this week is probably the only week where I am considering someone like Barrass.
