I genuinely cannot believe someone of this calibre is currently considered a POD (Point Of Difference). With a SuperCoach 2023 starting price of $610,800 and a BE of 111, Darcy Parish is considered an uber-premium pick, price-wise, but only 3% of teams have chosen him.
This is a MID who averaged 110.9 points in 2022, which was a year hampered by injury and poor club management. This impressive average was also a poor one compared to the previous season where Parish averaged 114.1 in 2021, a year that he won All-Australian honours.
Furthermore, his opening 4 games are against sides who have failed to play finals in recent years. Parish typically has a good record against Hawthorn, Gold Coast and St Kilda, scoring between 100-139 points in the past two games against all of those teams.
It’s unlikely Essendon will make the finals but we should see some improvement under new coach Brad Scott. Parish is a proven SuperCoach scorer and historically a good starter to the year. Before his injury last season, Parish was averaging 118.4 points up until round 12. His lowest score was only 97 against Melbourne and his greatest score was a massive 142 against Port Adelaide.
From all reports, Parish is fit and firing this preseason, as well as finding plenty of the footy in the match simulations. If he’s fit for round 1, I will likely start Parish. He’s just too good and while he’s also a POD, it’s too tempting to pass up.
