Archie Perkins could be on the cusp of a breakout season, which could make him an excellent forward option for SuperCoach 2023. The 20-year-old, former number 9 overall National Draft Pick from 2020, is set to play significantly more midfield this year.
We all know the best SuperCoach forwards are made by midfielders, who happen to have forward status. Perkins has spent his first 37 AFL games as a forward but was touted as a classy midfielder in his junior days. As reported by the Essendon Football Club’s official website this week, Perkins is about to step away from being permanently in the forward line and line up in the middle.
Perkins has spent most of this preseason with Essendon’s midfield group and he’s feeling fitter than ever. “I have done a lot of work with Daniel Giansiracusa and Ben Jacobs around stoppages and the midfield side of the game. I’m really looking to improve on winning more of the ball, clearances and centre bounces,” said Perkins for Essendon Media.
Perkins will start as a forward with a $314,400 price and is currently in only 1% of teams, making him a POD. Now, we’ve heard similar news about several other players during preseasons in the past, only for this not to eventuate and burn coaches who took the risk. So, make sure Perkins is spending more time in the midfield during the preseason matches before making the selection. At this starting price, Perkins is a risk, but all he needs to do is average 85 points (current break-even 57) to make this pick a great one.
