SuperCoach 2023: POD’s To Help You Get Through The Finals – Andrew Gaff

Some of us might be heading into their finals series this week or the next, and most of us are running out of trades. I’ve taken a look at some names that might suit you for the final 5 rounds of the year, and I guarantee you that you will unlikely see too many coaches with them lining up against you.

These picks are not for the faint-hearted, and they are very risky choices but high risk can sometimes result in high rewards. These picks are for those with few trades and minimal cash who want still want to make an impact in their head-to-head leagues.

Andrew Gaff $337,000 MID

I’ve had Andrew Gaff for a few weeks now in my SuperCoach Draft League side and I have been happy with the pick. The 31-year-old has had an ordinary season, as has his team the West Coast Eagles. However, since reports were leaked that the 2015 WCE Best & Fairest winner may be looking for a new home in Victoria for the 2024 AFL season, there’s been a real change in his form and his role. Remember, it’s mutually beneficial for West Coast to trade away the 31-year-old, as they try to rebuild their embarrassing team.

Meanwhile, Gaff needs to impress his potential future club. Since the announcement, Gaff has produced SuperCoach scores of 85, 86 and 114. The Eagles are playing him in better roles, which is improving his performance and his value. For those coaches who are strapped for cash and trades, but looking to hold Sam Walsh for deep into finals, Gaff could be a fantastic short-term replacement. He can also be very valuable if he’s available in your Draft League as a Free Agent, which is where I snapped him up from.

The duel All Australian midfielder has averaged over 100 SuperCoach points in 2015, 2018, 2019 and in 2020. However, it has been some time since Gaff showed us regular elite performances like that. My major concern is that he may slip back into irrelevance very quickly but remember, this guy is playing for his career, and West Coast is playing him to increase his value.
