I know, this is a strange one, but hear me out before you pass judgment. Currently, Carlton RUC Marc Pittonet is on my SuperCoach 2023 watchlist and I think after reading this, you might reconsider all of that doubt.
The Blues big man spent most of 2022 on the sidelines after an injury in round 6 but returned for the last month of footy. Before the injury, Pittonet was averaging 83.5 points and was priced at $448,600.
Now, Pittonet is starting at a lower $386,100 with a BE of just 70 points. In 2021 Pittonet averaged 85 points from 13 games, in a year where Carlton was very different to the team they are now.
The Blue’s have a formidable midfield with A-Grader’s in Brownlow Medalist Patrick Cripps and All-Australian Matthew Walsh. Each effective hit-out will result in points and in 2022, Pittonet was leading hit-out efficiency before his early injury.
$386,100 is an awkward starting price but it could pay off if Carlton start well. I’ll be keeping an eye on Pittonet this preseason and in the opening two rounds before making the call. Especially, as there is so much uncertainty in the ruck positions this preseason. Pittonet could be a value pick that can make you $100,000 and then be used to upgrade to a premium.
