The Dragon Ball GT series has had its fare share of criticism despite it brining us the epic Super Saiyan 4 transformation, which most fans agree makes more sense than a Super Saiyan God. One of the major criticism was its use of Uub, a character that seemed to almost be forgotten until right at the end. Even after a power-up with Majin Buu, there was still little point to him even being on the battlefield. However, the Dragon Ball Super series has confirmed they aren’t making the same mistake.
Uub is the reincarnation of Kid Buu, a wish that Goku asked for as he hurled his strongest Spirit Bomb yet at the little pink demon during the final stages of Dragon Ball Z. After the fight there was a time-skip and we see that young reincarnation fighting against Gokju, before the Saiyan offers to train him. Thus ending the Dragon Ball Z series with a hope that there’s more to come, which there was with the arrival of Dragon Ball GT.
Dragon Ball Super though, is set during the time-skip between the defeat of Buu and the World Martial Arts Tournament where Goku meets Uub. This means that we likely won’t see much of an interaction between the Z Fighters and Uub however, we did see a Kai ask Uub for some of his energy as Vegeta was gathering Ki against Moro in the latest Dragon Ball Super manga chapter.
As a result, Dragon Ball Super is already making Uub more relevant to the series than what Dragon Ball GT did. Furthermore, we got to see a glimpse of how much power it hidden within that young child and that makes the future generation so exciting. We also are aware that Dragon Ball GT is now no longer canon, which means that it can very easily be overwritten.
In order for Uub to play more of a part in Dragon Ball Super, it will have to be through cameos, just like in the previous manga chapter, until the series gets to the time-period where Dragon Ball Z ends. Then it’s possible that Dragon Ball Super could extend further than that and cancelling out Dragon Ball GT for good.
Imagine, a new future generation with a trained Uub, teenage Pan, teenage Bulla (Bra), adult Goten, adult Trunks and possibly even an adult Marron. I mean, it’s not impossible to suggest the daughter of the strangest human might want to try fighting herself as well. At least we know that Dragon Ball Super hasn’t forgotten Uub and that they’re hinting that there will be more of him to come in the future.
