Spoilers for the upcoming Dragon Ball Super manga chapter 68 have finally been revealed and it turns out that our predictions last were 90% correct. The missing 10% was the prediction of Granola’s alien race but apart from that, it seems as if Dragon Ball Super has once again, borrowed an idea from non-canon content.
In the past, it was the fan-made manga series set after the events of Dragon Ball Z and produced years before Dragon Ball Super began in Dragon Ball Multiverse, who may have noticed some similarities in some of Super’s content. It was the Universe 6 tournament and Tournament of Power arcs were suspiciously similar to that fan-made non-canon series.
Now, it looks as if Dragon Ball Super has used Dragon Ball GT for “inspiration” but with a slight twist in order to oppose any direct copyright claims. Granola, the new villain, is in search of power and has sought out Seven-Three as a result.
The power search is in order for him to enact revenge against the remaining Saiyan’s, as his race was attacked and destroyed by the Saiyan’s prior to them being killed by Frieza. Furthermore, the Saiyan’s were being ruled over by Frieza at that time, which means that Granola’s beef is with Frieza as well.
The spoilers also suggest that is was Bardock who was the one that attacked Granola’s people. This means that not only does Granola despise Saiyan’s but he also further motivation to dislike Goku and his family. Furthermore, Vegeta, being the son of the king of the Saiyan’s, wouldn’t be liked too much either and then there’s the fact that they’re sort of in an on and off relationship with Frieza too.
What does this have to do with Dragon Ball GT? Well, this basic story has already taken place with the arrival of Baby in that now non-canon series. Baby was a Tuffle, the fellow occupants of Planet Vegeta that the Saiyan’s killed off. This new Super arc is very similar to that but instead of it being the Tuffle’s, Granola is another race that the Saiyan’s wronged. I don’t think this will be a bad arc by any means but it would be nice if some original content was created.
