Netflix is developing an Assassin’s Creed live-action series and Ubisoft’s Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik will serve as Executive Producers. Furthermore, Netflix has released a teaser video for the franchise only hours ago, which you can view in the tweet below.
The project will include live-action, animated, and anime series. “For more than 10 years, millions of fans around the world have helped shape the Assassin’s Creed brand into an iconic franchise,” said Altman in a recent interview when asked about the upcoming project.
Assassin’s Creed first debuted in 2007 and became an instant hit, with over 155 million copies of the various titles in the franchise having been sold to date. Furthermore, this Netflix project would not be the first live-action Assassin’s Creed live-action adaptation. A film starring Michael Fassbender was released in 2016 and it went on to gross over $240 million worldwide.
Now, after listing everything we do know about the project, let’s talk about what we are still yet to know. For example, who will the game follow and what era will it be set in? There are so many options. The Netflix creations could be a spin-off sequel to the film set in the aftermath of those events.
Another option is to re-create a live-action version of the games. This could include additional content that was not included in the games. This option would mean casting actors for Ezio and Demond. The option here has been highly supported online by Assassins Creed fans.
However, the option that is more most likely is a completely new series of content. “We’re thrilled to create an Assassin’s Creed series with Netflix and we look forward to developing the next saga in the Assassin’s Creed universe, continued Altman” The use of the words “next saga” indicate that this will more than likely be a brand new story. Although, that won’t stop cameos from characters such as Ezio Auditore or Edward Kenway.
