Now, I’m not talking about reporting a dead body because obviously, that exists in Among Us. What I want to discuss today is that there is no option to report other players for bad behaviour. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to be a “Karen” here and complain about morals but it does surprise me that InnerSloth hasn’t added this feature.
The game focuses heavily on player interaction and in an environment where player remains anonymous, is opens ample opportunities for players to be quite horrible. I myself, have to admit, that I partake in some pretty questionable use of language while chatting to other players and I can be a bit of a D&%k sometimes especially, as there are no consequences.
Yes, the host can kick people out but what if the host is the problem? This bad behaviour could be from abusive chatting or even not playing the game properly. These could both ruin the experience for players and there’s nothing really protecting the players who aren’t being complete jackasses.
Remember, I say this as one of the players who sometimes (ok, quite often) says some inappropriate things in chat and enjoys trolling in-game. I was doing it for quite a while the other day and then it hit me, why I am allowed to do this? All I’m doing is irritating others but there are others who are genuinely being down-right horrible in chat.
I have been banned for some “un-sportsman-like” behaviour on other games before and most of the time, it was justified. Although, I have never taken part in the racism, sexism and stalker-ish behaviour that I have seen in Among Us over the past two weeks. I’m a troll, yes, and I love being one but some of the stuff I have seen isn’t trolling, it’s toxic.
Most gaming and social networks have reporting options but this game just doesn’t. I do understand that it might be hard to monitor between a genuine report and someone just reporting another because they are a sore-loser (it’s happened to me on other games). However, just because it’s difficult doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t be a thing. A report feature could help the experience of players who actually want to play and enjoy the game properly.
