It has been almost three years since Bandai Namco released its most recent Naruto/Boruto game with Naruto To Boruto: Shinobi Striker. A fact that most Boruto fans are surprised about considering the enormous growth the Boruto series has had in that time.

However, during the Piro Live! New Year’s Eve Special 2021, which was broadcast for Japanese fans on YouTube, Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada stated that he was working on one of the “most costly development projects in Bandai Namco history.”

This sparked interest online for Naruto fans, as they are eager to have a new title added to the already popular universe. This is fueled by there being no further details about whether the project was related to Tekken, a return of a classic franchise, or even a new project and the fact that Naruto/Boruto has been neglected by Bandai in recent times.

Sadly though, to the disappointment to those Naruto fans hopeful online, this new reveal is unlikely to be a new Naruto game, as Harada did mention that it was not going to be a fighting game, which leaves the door wide open for a lot of possibilities but a Naruto game is probably not one of them.

Naruto and Boruto games are traditionally fighting games, similar to Dragon Ball Z games and One Piece games, which Bandai have developed. However, Bandai have worked closely on open-world Dragon Ball Z and One Piece games recently, such as Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.

It’s possible that a new Naruto game could be coming but instead of it being a typical fighting style game, it could be an open-world project instead. Either way, it’s exciting to see that Bandai is working on something big, which will be released in the near future.
