4. Android 16 (Dragon Ball Z – Cell Saga)
This is the only canon main character non-evil death that stayed permanent in Dragon Ball Z. After the attack of Cell, everyone who does at the hands of the evil biological Android was brought back to life with the Dragon Balls. Well, except for Android 16 that is. The death of this android allowed Gohan to unleash his dormant power and defeat Cell. Chowing us that he can resist the urge to kill Goku, as per his programing in order to protect the Earth, a place that he actually loved. Yet, despite the good in Android 16, his time in the Dragon Ball world was brief, as he was not wished back by the Dragon Ball’s.
5. Goku (Dragon Ball Z – Cell Saga)
Another character whose death didn’t remain permanent but did sadden fans when it happened. At this time, Goku opted to remain dead after his passing at the hands of Cell. Originally, Dragon Ball Z was meant to end there so was Goku’s story, passing on the future of the Erath to his son Gohan. A touching moment but as we soon discovered, it was just a temporary passing. Akira Toriyama was convinced to extend the story of Dragon Ball Z with the Buu saga, which brought Goku back and that made his death at the hands of Cell significantly less dramatic.
