As many who follow the Boruto Naruto Next Generations manga would already know, our speculation for the past three years about Kara member Kashin Koji being Jiraiya, was more on the mark than expected.
In fact, it was confirmed that Koji was Jiraiya but simply not the Jiraiya that we were expecting. Koji is actually the biological clone of Jiraiya, a clone that has the exact same fighting style and jutsu’s at his disposal.
However, this version of Jiraiya has actually surpassed the Jiraiya that we know and love, the man who became a Legendary Sanin during the Second Great Ninja War and the one who wad tragically defeated by Pain in Naruto Shippuden.
As we have seen in the previous Boruto manga chapter, Jiraiya used Toad Sage Mode against Jigen. However, this wasn’t the same Sage Mode that we remember from the Pain arc. This version required no toads attached to Jiraiya or a deformed face in order to control the power of this jutsu.
Despite being one of few characters who were able to use this jutsu, it was not a perfected version that he used against pain. As stated in Naruto Shippuden, the reason Jiraiya needed help from the toads and the reason is face became deformed was because he never mastered the technique.
Although, now in Boruto Naruto Next Generations, Koji didn’t need his toad friends and his face wasn’t deformed. This means that the version of Sage Mode that he used against Jigen was a mastered version and more advanced than the one used against Pain.
